Trailering a Kitfox

I Picked up a Kitfox 2 about 300 miles north of my place in Ontario Canada in July 2009. I borrowed a trailer from Tim at BigtopTents that was made for a Tricycle gear Kitfox. The Trigear has a shorter wheelbase from the mains to the tail so some field mods had to be done to trailer a taildragger Kitfox.

Here is what we found when we got there.

This was the first time this Kitfox was ever on Wheels. IT was on floats since 1991 and had 431 hours TT.

So We Loaded it up the trailer and started the custom fitting.

Trimming the blocks done by the old owner of the plane George Markle, one heck of a great guy.

The plane had the OEM 8" wheels on it but the trailer was made for 6 " wheels that the Trigear Kitfox used. We made it work.

We all loaded and after a 3 mile ride down a very bumpy gravel goat path we made it to pavement to starst our 300 mile journey back to my shop to stasrt the rebuild.

Finally we made to home to my grass strip all safe and sound and No damage to the Kitfox 2 .

Update, Sept 19th.

Kitfox has been gone over with new engine, 21 " wheels some paint and wing mods done and it finally got test flown -, Flys great and owner is very happy.

I will be making a custom trailer for this Kitfox in the next few weeks, so stay tuned
